Garman GPS

Products From The Garman GPS Range

Garmin (most times spelt incorrectly and colloquially as Garman) has been a forerunning name in the Global Position Servicing industry for quite some time now. With its continual release of new products, the company has ensured that the world will not forget Garman GPS in a hurry.

The company has pioneered GPS devices since 1990. There was a Garman GPS product that proved much helpful to the US military in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait when the Gulf War was being waged. These were the roots of the family of GPS that was all set to dominate the industry.

The real public acknowledgement for Garman GPS devices came on at the turn of the millennium. This was when the company launched a GPS product that was very aptly named as the Forerunner. You could call this prophetic, because this product helped in the launch of several more products in the subsequent years with better and better technologies. Around this time, Garman released its product the Foretrex, which became an instant hit among adventure sportspersons, who form their major market even today. Most people wouldn't want to go on their bikes and hikes without their Garman Foretrex.

The StreetPilot that followed was specifically designed for car GPS, which is today the biggest market for the technology. It had some very flashy features for the times, such as a sixteen color map and a key operated interface.

But what made Garman GPS really famous was its eTrex range. The base model was called as the eTrex Yellow because of its color and was immediately exceptionally famous, mostly because of its low cost. Its monochrome interface was quite enough to tell a person the distance and direction from a particular destination. But Garman did not stop at that. It kept evolving the eTrex series with various other products such as the Summit, the Venture, the Legend and the Vista. These devices set the benchmarks for the sophisticated GPS gizmos to follow. They had the altimeters, highway maps and city databases that makes GPS so very indispensable today. By their functions and appearances, they are the most cherished GPS devices in the world today.

The iQue range is a newer range. Launched in 2005, the iQue M4 is the first Garman GPS device that does not need a computer hookup to install the maps in the device. The maps come preinstalled for UK and US, which makes it a much more convenient device. In the same year, the StreetPilot i-Series came out with three model versions, the i2, the i3 and the i5. The highest version here, the i5 boasted of a large touchscreen in full color, weather support and MSN Direct updates. This also has Bluetooth and had compatibility for FM traffic notification. If there is a fully functional Garman GPS, this is it!

Today, Garman GPS has again rediscovered itself with the very sophisticated nĂ¼vi 660, another widescreen GPS that can fit easily in your pocket. It has most of the features of the i5, but packaged in a small, flat size.
